The price of family child care has been jacked up by more than double the CPI inflation rate in 2021, causing stress and financial strain for Rockingham and Kwinana families.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics released the latest data on price increases to December 2021, showing child care prices increase in Perth by 8.6 per cent, while CPI inflation was only 3.5 per cent.

The Liberal Government’s heartless approach to child care policy displays a total lack of integrity, with surging costs way above the annual inflation rate.

A Federal Labor Government will reduce the cost of child care.

Labor’s policy will:

• Scrap the $10,560 child care subsidy cap which often sees women losing money from an extra day’s work.
• Lift the maximum child care subsidy rate to 90 per cent; and
• Increase child care subsidy rates for every family earning less than $530,000; and
• Ensure that no family is worse off.

Labor will keep working to fix Australia’s broken child care system, which currently locks out more than 100,000 families because they just can’t afford it.
