Bulk billing had been falling after a decade of cuts and neglect to Medicare by the former Government that began when Peter Dutton froze Medicare rebates as Health Minister.
The Albanese Government has since tripled the bulk billing incentive.
Previously, 72 per cent of all GP visits were bulk billed in the Brand electorate.
But following the investments by the Albanese Government the bulk billing rate has increased to 75 per cent.
This means an estimated 10,626 additional trips to GP were bulk billed across the cities of Rockingham and Kwinana.
Residents are also seeing savings thanks to the Albanese Government’s commitment to delivering cheaper medicines, following the largest reduction in the PBS co-payment in the history of the PBS and the introduction of 60-day scripts.
Residents in Brand have saved $2,353,659 on scripts since January 2023.
The Albanese Government’s $6.1 billion investment in strengthening Medicare has given GPs the confidence to build sustainable businesses, particularly in regional and rural Australia.
The Member for Brand, Federal Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Madeleine King, visited the Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in Rockingham today to mark Medicare’s 40th anniversary.
Minister King said Medicare is created by Labor and Labor would always back cheaper access to healthcare.
“People in Brand know that after a decade of cuts and neglect from Peter Dutton and the Liberals, it was becoming increasingly hard to find a bulk billing doctor.
“Thanks to the Albanese Government there is more bulk billing in Brand.
“This is delivering significant cost of living relief for people across Rockingham and Kwinana.”
“Labor introduced Medicare and only Labor can be trusted to strengthen and protect it.”
