Malcolm Turnbull’s Liberal Government’s $2.2 billion of uni cuts is starting to hit hard with universities in WA losing $208 million.
Local Member of Federal Parliament Madeleine King MP said these cuts were an attack on the hopes and dreams of thousands of students who worked hard to get into uni.
“We know that these cuts translate into a funding shortage for up to 10,000 uni places,” Ms King said.
“This means that, through no fault of their own, an estimated 10,000 people could miss out on a uni place this year despite studying so hard in Year 12.”
Ms King said when in Government Labor lifted the caps on the number of uni places, in order to help people go to uni.
“Unfortunately, this Government is reducing access to university. It is limiting the choices young people can make about their future instead of encouraging them to reach their full potential.”
“This Liberal Government once again has shown its priorities are all wrong by ripping funding away from students to pay for tax cuts for multinationals and millionaires.”
