The Albanese Labor Government has provided $18.5 million in funding for upgrades to an aquatic recreation centre and public green spaces in Kwinana and a community hub in Rockingham.

Funding is being provided for three major projects in Rockingham and Kwinana as part of the Albanese Government’s Thriving Suburbs Program, which is focused on building better cities and more liveable suburbs.

More than $15 million will be provided to redevelop Kwinana Recquactic Centre with expanded pool areas and a new family leisure pool with water play features and a toddler and family area.

In addition to the upgrades at the Recquatic Centre, the City of Kwinana will receive $2.1 million for projects which will revitalise the city centre.

This funding will improve connections between public and green spaces through upgraded surface treatments, public art installations, improved wayfinding, new seating, signage, and better pedestrian access.

$1.4 million will be provided to the City of Rockingham to deliver an affordable community hub and fit-for-purpose space for the relocation of the Rockingham Lotteries House.

The new community hub will provide local residents with better access to community services, not-for-profit providers, recreation facilities, an art studio, a multi-purpose office space, playgroup options and parenting support services.

Federal Member for Brand and Federal Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Madeleine King, said the funding showed how the Albanese Government was supporting families and communities in Rockingham and Kwinana.

“This funding is amazing news for residents and families in our community. This is an investment in our economy, and our future,” Ms King said.

“The Albanese Government is taking action to improve local infrastructure, and ensure everyone can enjoy Kwinana’s city centre.

“The redevelopment of the much-loved Kwinana Recquatic has been a long time in the making and this funding will give Kwinana locals of all ages better access to fitness, leisure, and recreation in a modern facility.

Commencement of planning and design phase of these projects will begin in early 2025 following completion of the funding agreement between the Federal Government and the local councils.
