Construction for the upgrades are now underway and made possible through a $2.4 million federal grant committed at the last election by Federal Member for Brand Madeleine King.

The remaining $800,000 is funded through developer contributions.

Thomas Oval has previously hosted NRL clubs for pre-season training, highlighting its importance as a sporting hub in the region.

It is envisaged that the enhanced facilities at Thomas Oval may have a catalytic impact on the use of the site as a training ground for major visiting sporting clubs.

The Albanese Government’s investment in upgrading Thomas Oval facilities is expected to increase participation in community sport, contribute to physical wellness, strengthen social bonds, and improve mental health.

Federal Member for Brand Madeleine King and Mayor Peter Feasey attended the site today to turn the sod and welcome the project’s construction.

Mayor Peter Feasey said the changeroom facility would be built on the other side of the oval to the Thomas Kelly Pavilion to cater for the Kwinana Titans and AIM Archery clubs who walk several hundred metres to access changerooms at Thomas Kelly Pavilion.

“The new facility will include four changerooms, two storage areas, two universally accessible toilets, two dedicated umpires rooms, covered spectators areas and two storage areas and a kiosk,” Mayor Feasey said.

“As part of this project, funding will also be used to refurbish the kitchen in the existing Thomas Hall building.

“Practical completion is expected to take place in December 2025 with an official opening and community celebration planned for early 2026.

“This project delivers new sporting infrastructure which is critical to support participation and the physical and social wellbeing of residents in our community,” he said.

“This is an investment in the local clubs’ growth and ongoing success.

Federal Member for Brand, Madeleine King, emphasised the importance of these modern new facilities for local Kwinana sporting clubs.

“The Kwinana Titans are not just a strong rugby league club, they are a fantastic pathway for young kids getting into a growing sport here in Western Australia.

“AIM Archery also continues to hit the mark by providing a welcoming space for those looking to develop their skills.

“These improved facilities will ensure our local sporting clubs have the best possible environment to train and compete.

“The Albanese Government is standing up for our community and delivering the local infrastructure we need and deserve,” Ms King said.
