APPOINTMENT AS SHADOW MINISTER FOR RESOURCES

28 January 2021

I am extremely honoured to be appointed as Labor’s Shadow Minister for Resources, in addition to my role as Shadow Minister for Trade.

I am extremely honoured to be appointed as Labor’s Shadow Minister for Resources, in addition to my role as Shadow Minister for Trade.

Labor supports our world-leading resources sector because it creates jobs, economic growth and export revenue for Australia.

As a Western Australian, I understand the crucial role the industry plays in the nation’s economic wellbeing and the importance of mining to regional communities right around the country.

I have seen first-hand the massive wealth-generating projects in the state’s north that support regional communities.

And as the Member for Brand, I know how important the resources industry is to thousands of families that depend on fly-in fly-out shifts that are gruelling for the family staying home and the worker who goes away.

I look forward to working with Senator Murray Watt in his new role as Shadow Minister for Queensland Resources.

Australia’s resources industry accounts for half of Australia’s total exports and directly employs more than 250,000 people.

I also understand the importance of a cleaner energy future and I look forward to working with the resources sector to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
