WOEFUL INTERNET RAISED IN PARLIAMENT

13 October 2016

Local Member of Federal Parliament Madeleine King has criticised the Government for neglecting educational opportunities for local students by expecting them to put up with substandard internet services.

Speaking in her first Matter of Public Importance, Ms King blasted the Government for failing to deliver the 21st Century infrastructure necessary for students to do their best at school.

“Unfortunately, in my electorate, in the suburb of Baldivis alone, students have no access to the internet thanks to the substandard, outdated, and ignored communications infrastructure that leaves residents scratching about for ADSL ports to connect to,” Ms King said.

“Students are being left behind when it comes to researching and doing their homework.”

Ms King said she was waiting on a response from the Government to explain why Baldivis residents were expected to put up with inadequate internet and mobile phone access.

“Baldivis residents are living in a communications black hole and that is not good enough,” Ms King said.

“I will continue to raise these issues in the Federal Parliament.”
