CHAOS AND CONFUSION WITH NEW CHILDCARE SUBSIDY SCHEME

12 July 2018

The Turnbull Government’s new unfair childcare package has not only left one-in-four local families worse off but is also hurting local childcare providers who are reeling at the mess caused by the changeover.

The Wellard Early Learning Centre, a not-for-profit centre that provides fantastic care and support to local families, is struggling to transition to the new system because of software glitches and a lack of government support.

Thanks to these bungles the centre is now worried it won’t receive the childcare subsidy needed to provide childcare for single and low income parents who are working or studying.

And with more than 2,000 families locally worse off because of this unfair system it is outrageous that many more will miss out on subsided care because the system cannot process their registrations in time for the changeover.

I urge any family that has had problems registering for their childcare subsidy to contact my office and I will raise their concerns on their behalf.

It is just not good enough for the Turnbull Government to create this chaos and confusion and ignore the fallout for the childcare centres, parents, workers and children who are affected.
