With Round 2 of the Local Sporting Champions funding program closing soon, local Member of Federal Parliament Madeleine King is encouraging young sports people to apply for one of the $500 grants on offer.

“This is a great opportunity for young athletes, coaches and officials to get a helping hand to go to state, national or international sporting events,” Ms King said.

“The $500 grant is available for 12 to 18 year olds and can go towards travel, accommodation, uniforms and equipment costs.”

Ms King said she had spoken to many local families who told her the $500 grant had helped them pay for their child to attend an important sporting event.

Applications for Round 2 close on 31 October 2016 and successful applicants should be notified by the end of the year.
