Local Member of Federal Parliament Madeleine King has again called on the Federal Government to confirm federal infrastructure funding will be released to Western Australia in the wake of the canned Roe 8 project.
Speaking today at the site of the proposed Karnup train station, with visiting Shadow Assistance Minister for Infrastructure Pat Conroy, Ms King said the funding previously allocated to Roe 8 should instead be used to develop projects needed in local communities.
“The WA Government was elected with a mandate to deliver the Metronet rail project which will expand Perth’s rail network and build new train stations including one here in Karnup,” Ms King said.
“This will help relieve congestion on the roads and will provide local residents with public transport options to help connect them to jobs, education and other amenities across the city.”
Mr Conroy said Ms King had spoken in Parliament about the need for local infrastructure investment to better deliver opportunities to local people.
“A new train station here at Karnup is a much-needed investment in the community and in infrastructure that will keep on delivering into the future,” Mr Conroy said.
“We need to invest in projects such as this station that improve the liveability of local communities by connecting people with jobs and other services while reducing congestion on the roads.”
