The cost of child care in Brand is rising faster than anywhere else in Western Australia, according to the Federal Government’s latest data.

Fees in Kwinana soared by 11.3 per cent over the previous 12 months, while fees in Rockingham were up 8.3 per cent – both well above the national increase of 5.1 per cent.

Kwinana had the highest rate of fees growth of any region in WA during that period, while Rockingham came in third.

This data was published by the Federal Department of Education.

The Member for Brand, Madeleine King, said she was shocked to see that families across the suburbs of Kwinana and Rockingham were being slugged with some of the biggest fee increases in the nation over the past year.

“The Government continues to pretend there is ‘nothing to see here’ while families in Brand are being crippled under soaring child care fees,” she said.

Across Australia, fees have now increased by 34.6 per cent since the Liberals were elected in 2013.

The Government has broken its promise to families that its new system would bring fees down, and they have absolutely no plan to control fees.

The Government must act urgently to ensure high-quality early education is affordable and accessible for every child in our community.
