KWINANA - CONTINUING TO DRIVE THE WA ECONOMY

16 August 2017

With new projects along the Kwinana Industrial Strip cementing the area as a major economic driver for the WA economy, the need for investment in Kwinana’s infrastructure future is as important as ever.

Speaking in response to BHP’s announcement of a multi-million dollar new nickel sulphate project at its Kwinana refinery, Madeleine King MP said investment in Kwinana was of local, state and national importance.

“BHP has plans to become the world’s biggest exporter of nickel sulphate and this is an exciting opportunity for Kwinana,” Ms King said.

“Since the 1950s the Kwinana Industrial Strip has been driving WA’s economy and with the support of industry it will continue to do so,” Ms King said.

“But we need to ensure the Kwinana Strip develops into the future and to do so we need to invest in the forward-thinking infrastructure that will ensure its viability for the long-term.”

Ms King said planning for an outer harbour at Kwinana was needed now and she would continue to work with both her state and federal colleagues to ensure Kwinana continued to support WA’s economy for years to come.

“When it comes to investing in the future, we can’t be caught off-guard and we can’t be left playing catch up,” Ms King said.

“We can’t afford not to build the new harbour and we need to start planning for it now.”
