Having helped more than 2,000 people since opening their doors last year, the dedicated volunteers at Rockingham’s Coastal District Care Centre took time on Monday to mark their first anniversary with local Member of Federal Parliament Madeleine King.

Centre chairwoman Gillian Harris welcomed Ms King’s support for the charity saying their work relied on donations and assistance to help people in need.

“We appreciate Madeleine’s support for our centre as we do all the support given to us by the community this past year,” Ms Harris said.

“We have helped more than 2,000 people during our first year and demand for our services continues to grow with people from all backgrounds, from young families to pensioners to people living on the streets, needing assistance.

Ms King said the Coastal District Care Centre provided emergency relief to some of the most vulnerable people in the community as well as those struggling financially.

“Gillian and all the volunteers at the Centre are to be commended for their work in supporting people in need, including those who are homeless, unemployed and in financial hardship,” Ms King said.

The Coastal District Care Centre offers assistance to people with a Centrelink Healthcare Card. The Centre is located at 14 Council Avenue in Rockingham, is open on Monday and Friday from 9am to 11am and can be contacted on 9592 2699.
